From Poisons to Potions: The Science of Toxicology and Pharmacology
June 25-29; 9am-3pm | Ages 14-18 | $595
Anschutz Medical Campus at UC Denver
Registration for this class closes on Sunday, June 17th at 11:59pm. If you wish to register for this class after that date, please call 303-492-7188.
Which drugs are dangerous, and which ones save lives? How can a toxin become medicine? How do we know how much of a drug to take? Investigate these questions and more in this course about the science of toxicology (how chemical substances can harm us), and pharmacology (how we use chemical substances to help us). Our week will include hands-on lab experiments, presentations on cutting-edge research, thought-provoking discussions about drugs in our society, and interactions with graduate students, faculty, and professionals in toxicology and pharmacology. By the end of the week, we will leave with a better understanding of the difference between poisons and “potions” and why we should be aware of the science behind them.
