Geologic Field Methods
June 16-20; 9am-4pm | Ages 14-18 | $355
Science Learning Laboratory (East Campus)
Field mapping, field data collection, and laboratory processes are crucial to geologic research. In this course, we will learn basic field techniques and data collection through hands-on experience. We’ll head into the field to map geologic and geomorphic features. We will also collect hillslope and stream data with various types of survey equipment. We will explore characteristics of the deeper bedrock using geophysical survey techniques. After collecting our field data, we’ll head back to the lab to learn the basic of geophysical analysis. To cap off our experience, we will also check out several of the laboratories at the University of Colorado and interact with graduate student researchers.
Please note: This is a full-day field class. Campers need sturdy walking shoes, hat, backpack, waterproof windbreaker, a filled water bottle, a sack lunch, two snacks per day, pre-applied sunscreen and pre-applied bug repellent.
Age Policy: Careful consideration is used to determine age levels for all camps. To provide the highest quality experience for all students, it is necessary to adhere to the specified age range for this camp.
