Field mapping, field data collection, and laboratory processes are crucial to geologic research.  In this course, we will learn basic field techniques and data collection through hands-on experience.  We’ll head up to the Critical Zone Observatory to map geologic and geomorphic features.  We will also collect hillslope and stream data with various types of survey equipment.    We will explore characteristics of the deeper bedrock using geophysical survey techniques.  After collecting our field data, we’ll head back to the lab to learn the basic of geophysical analysis.  To cap off our experience, we will also check out several of the laboratories at the University of Colorado (and possibly the USGS) and interact with graduate student researchers.

Please note: This is a field class. Students need sturdy walking shoes, hat, sunscreen, backpack, waterproof windbreaker, a filled water bottle, and a snack each day.
